Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust (DCLT) is encouraging residents to join in the UK’s largest health and fitness event, National Fitness Day, on Wednesday, 18th September. The event is a chance for Doncaster locals to embrace fitness and well-being, with DCLT offering several initiatives to help people make fitness a part of their daily lives.
This year’s theme, ‘Your Health is for Life’, emphasises long-term health by incorporating fitness into everyday routines. It’s not just about working out for one day but about taking small, consistent steps toward a healthier lifestyle.
DCLT’s leisure centres will host various activities, including swim, cycle, row, or run challenges, with each centre working together to complete their distance goals:
- Adwick: Swim, Cycle, Row, Run
- Armthorpe: Swim, Cycle, Row, Run
- Askern: Swim
- Balby: Row, Run, Cycle
- Dearne: Swim, Cycle, Row, Run
- Dome: Swim, Cycle, Row, Run
- Rossington: Swim
- Thorne: Swim
Challenges include a 34km swim, the equivalent of crossing the English Channel, a 50km Ultra marathon run, a 612km cycle to replicate the Tour de Yorkshire, and a 40km rowing challenge.
Additionally, DCLT is offering a free 5-day trial membership from Monday 16th to Sunday 23rd September, allowing current members to bring a friend along to experience all the facilities. New memberships taken out on National Fitness Day will enter a prize draw to win a £250 gift card, and those who sign up for an adult Choose Fitness membership on 18th September will pay nothing until 15th October.
As part of the day’s events, DCLT will also partner with University Campus Doncaster at The Dome from 3pm to 8pm, offering free massage treatments, Normatec Compression Therapy, and VO2 Max Testing to all DCLT members.
Chris Wright, head of leisure at DCLT, said: “National Fitness Day is the perfect opportunity to encourage people to look at their own health and wellbeing and kickstart their fitness journey. And our team at DCLT are here to help!”
“We have fantastic facilities across the city for everyone, no matter their fitness level. We hope people will take part in one of the challenges or even just come and see how our venues and staff can support anyone looking to make positive lifestyle changes.”
