Weekend Round-up: Doncaster’s Adult Football Team

Doncaster Rovers

Doncaster Rovers hosted Gillingham, the league leaders, at the Eco-Power Stadium, securing a 1-0 win in front of 7,546 fans. Billy Sharp’s first-half strike was enough to see Rovers climb to the top of the League Two table. In a tight match with few chances, a draw may have been fair, but Rovers took all three points. The victory marked their 11th consecutive home league win, equalling a record set in the 1934-35 season.

The attendance was boosted by the international break – hopefully, some of those extra fans will return for the next home fixture.

Doncaster Rovers Belles

The Belles continued their strong form with a 3-2 win over South Yorkshire rivals Barnsley in the WPL Division One at the Eco-Power Stadium on Sunday.

Rossington Main FC

Rossington Main suffered a 4-1 defeat away at Penistone Church in the Northern Counties East Division. They’ll be aiming to bounce back at home this Saturday against Parkgate. With Doncaster Rovers not playing due to the Ledger Festival, this could be a good opportunity to get behind Rossington Main.

Doncaster City FC

Doncaster City lost 3-2 at home to Dinnington Town in dramatic fashion. Leading 1-0 at half-time thanks to a Daniel Boulton goal, they conceded twice in the second half. City thought they had secured a point with an 89th-minute equaliser, but Dinnington snatched the win with the last kick of the game. A club spokesperson commented on X: “A tough defeat with Dinnington taking every chance they had, but that’s football. Congratulations to Dinnington. #TheCityisBlue.”

You can watch the highlights for yourself below.

Edenthorpe Ladies

Edenthorpe Ladies played their first home game of the season at the Howard Pavilion, losing 4-1 to Mind Over Matter in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Women & Girls League. They’ll look to recover next week in their away match against Barlborough Ladies.

That’s the round-up of Doncaster’s adult football teams. Which matches did you catch?
