Harrogate Town secured a 2-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers, preventing the league leaders from extending their one-point advantage at the top of League Two.
The match saw Harrogate overcome their poor form, as they had come into the contest with three consecutive defeats and no goals scored in those matches.
Ellis Taylor opened the scoring for Harrogate in the 27th minute, netting only his second senior goal with a well-placed stooping header from James Daly’s accurate left-wing cross.
Doncaster struggled to find a rhythm, with their defence caught flat-footed just before half-time. Jasper Moon’s long ball was chased down by Josh March, who sprinted clear of the visiting defence and saw his effort deflect off Jay McGrath’s last-ditch challenge, leaving goalkeeper Ted Sharman-Lowe with no chance.
Doncaster made a number of second-half substitutions in an attempt to claw back into the game, but their efforts were largely ineffective.
A deflected long-range shot from McGrath was the closest they came to threatening Harrogate’s goalkeeper, James Belshaw.
The defeat means that Doncaster have now failed to beat their Yorkshire rivals in all five league meetings between the two clubs, something we mentioned in our preview.
It also marked the first time that Doncaster have failed to score in a league away game since Boxing Day, as Simon Weaver’s side frustrated the league leaders and earned a well-deserved three points.
