MP attends Battle of Britain memorial and wreath-laying for Doncaster RAF veteran

A wreath was laid in memory of Doncaster RAF veteran Flt Lt Ian Cairns during a Battle of Britain memorial at South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum.

Doncaster Central MP Sally Jameson attended the service, which honoured those who died in the Battle of Britain in World War Two.

Flt Lt Ian Cairns, who died earlier this year aged 84, played a key role in the 1053 (Armthorpe) Squadron, where he trained hundreds of cadets.

A former RAF Warrant Officer, he was involved in the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA), the RAF Regiment Association, and served as a trustee at the museum. He also raised funds for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal and led the Battle of Britain Parade for many years.
