This weekend is remembrance weekend and there are many services and events across the city to remember all those that have fallen.
Before we get into the services we just wanted to remind you of the history and significance of the event.
There is in fact two separate events, one which falls on the 11th of November and one which falls on the Sunday following 11th November, known as Remembrance Sunday,
The first service has a 2 minute silence, and is to remember the ending of WW1, this tradition started way back in 1919, on the first anniversary of Germany surrendering to end the great war.
The great war ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.
The second event to pay respect to fallen soldiers is on Remembrance Sunday. Again it was started to remember those who gave their lives during WW1 but is now a service for all those who gave their lives in any conflict.
There are many small events all across the city where people can pay their respects, the main service is in the city center at the main cenotaph, near Bennetthorpe.
There will be events across the majority of the villages and towns which make up the city, there will be road closures in place. From 8:30 – 11:30 am on the Sunday in most places.
