So today Doncaster officially became a city. The town which can trace its history back thousands of years was granted city status as part of the Queen’s Jubilee earlier in the year.
Simon and myself had been discussing the idea of creating a news site about Doncaster for a few years and when the announcement was made earlier in the year that the bid to become a city had been successful, we decided we would launch the site on the day the Queen came to make it official.
Obviously due to her death back in September this wasn’t the case, but we did go into the city centre this afternoon to welcome the new King to Doncaster and we wanted this to be the first post on the site.
King Charles and the Queen Consort arrived just before 1pm to huge cheers. These was a large crowd gather for their arrival. The royal couple then spent a few minutes chatting with those who had waited to see the new king before heading inside the Mansion House to formally confer the city status.
So this is an exciting day for both us personally as we launch this website but also for our wonderful city.
