Plans to convert a vacant convenience store in Edlington, Doncaster, into multiple retail units have been given the green light by Doncaster Council. The decision, approved on Tuesday, 10 September, will see the former Nisa Local store at 35 Violet Avenue divided into three distinct retail units.
The Nisa Local store, which closed its doors in March this year, has remained empty, prompting developers to propose the transformation. Internal and external alterations will be made to split the building into three units, complete with new shopfronts and updated signage. Although the future occupiers of these units have not yet been specified, each space is expected to be used for retail or other commercial purposes.
As the units are designed to meet the needs of the local community, no additional parking spaces will be provided. Planners believe the site is well-suited for local foot traffic, minimising the need for on-site parking.
Neighbouring residents were consulted during the planning process, with no objections raised, reflecting broad support for the development. Planning officers confirmed that the proposal adheres to all relevant planning policies and regulations, adding that the new units will benefit the whole community by revitalising the currently vacant site.
The transformation of the site is seen as a positive step for Edlington, which will see new business opportunities and services for local residents as part of the development. The addition of these retail spaces is expected to enhance the vibrancy of the area and support the local economy.
