Volunteers Clear Overgrown Bridleway in Mexborough for Safe Public Use

Volunteers have taken action to clear an overgrown bridleway in Mexborough, cutting back brambles and nettles that had made the path difficult to navigate. The bridleway, located between Eden Terrace and Adwick Road, had become overrun with foliage, impacting local residents, dog walkers, and families heading to Adwick Road Park.

Ward councillor Sean Gibbons initially raised the issue with Doncaster Council’s Public Rights of Way (PROW) team. In their response, the council acknowledged that the path had been cut back on 30 May 2024 and was scheduled for another clearing 12 weeks later. However, wet weather had caused a five-week delay. The council assured Gibbons that the path would be prioritised once work resumed, stating, “The hot weather at the moment should speed things up. Fingers crossed.”

In the meantime, volunteers from the community took matters into their own hands and cleared the bridleway. Coun Gibbons praised the group, saying, “Huge thanks again to Karen, Kelly, Mandy, and John for their efforts. Now dog walkers and families heading to Adwick Road Park will be able to walk down the bridleway safely without getting nettled.”

The volunteer-led initiative has significantly improved accessibility for locals, ensuring a safer and more pleasant route for everyone who uses the path. The effort highlights the importance of community action in maintaining local public spaces.
