Paddington Bear Stops in Doncaster for Marmalade Sandwich at Edenthorpe Village Bench

Paddington Bear, the beloved children’s character, made an unexpected stop in Doncaster, delighting locals as he took a break to enjoy one of his iconic marmalade sandwiches on a village bench. Dressed in his signature blue duffel coat, red hat, and bright red wellies, Paddington was spotted by eagle-eyed photographer Brian Callery in Edenthorpe.

The bear, clutching his well-worn satchel packed with his famous sandwiches, was part of Edenthorpe’s recent scarecrow festival, which featured a range of creative displays across the village and neighbouring areas like Barnby Dun and Kirk Sandall. Paddington was seen taking a break on a bench next to the village’s war memorial on Thorne Road, adding an extra dose of charm to the annual event.

Photographer Brian Callery captured the moment and expressed his delight: “Seen Paddington this morning in Edenthorpe taking a break—just passing through Doncaster. This is excellent – well done to the person who did this, it deserves a mention.”

Paddington Bear, a character adored by generations, has inspired a wide range of books, television programmes, films, and merchandise since his debut in 1958. His creator, Michael Bond, introduced the lovable bear from “darkest Peru” to the world, and Paddington has since become an iconic figure of British culture.

The scarecrow festival, which brought Paddington to life in Doncaster, is a popular local event that showcases the creativity of residents while fostering a sense of community. The addition of such a well-known figure as Paddington added extra excitement to this year’s festivities, bringing smiles to the faces of young and old alike.
